Admission-Based Scholarships for International Students

Please note - students who receive non-resident admission-based scholarships MUST maintain non-residency status to continue to receive the award.

IUPUI Outstanding Scholar Award

$15,000 annually for 4 years

  1. Apply for admission to IUPUI by March 1
  2. Minimum high school GPA of 3.75 (on a 4.0 scale)
  3. Minimum SAT or ACT scores
    1. 1250 (taken before March 2016)
    2. 650 Math only score for international students from non-English speaking countries (taken prior to March 2016)
    3. 1310 (taken after March 2016)
    4. 670 Math only score for international students from non- English speaking countries (taken after March 2016)
    5. 28 on the ACT.
IUPUI Chancellor's Scholars Program

$19,000 renewable for 4 years:

$19,000 per year for four years of study, a $2,500 housing stipend for freshman year, and $2,500 in funding for a study abroad experience.

The Chancellor's Scholar Program is designed for highly motivated, well-rounded incoming freshmen who have excelled in high school and are committed to academic excellence. This program is designed for incoming freshmen who meet rigorous academic standards and who have demonstrated leadership, extensive civic engagement, or interest in global citizenship. Scholarship recipients are selected based on a variety of factors: strength of academic curriculum in high school, standardized test results, grade trends, and qualities specified in each scholarship program.

Dean's Recognition Scholarship (DRS)

$11,000 annually for 4 years

  1. Apply for admission to IUPUI by March 1
  2. Minimum high school GPA of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale)
  3. Minimum SAT or ACT scores
    1. 1200 (taken before March 2016)
    2. 600 Math only score for international students from non-English speaking countries (taken prior to March 2016)
    3. 1270 (taken after March 2016)
    4. 620 Math only score for international students from non- English speaking countries (taken after March 2016)
    5. 26 on the ACT.

To be considered for renewal, students must attend full time and maintain a 3.0 GPA (no separate application required).

Valedictorian and Salutatorian Scholarships

$10,000 annually for 4 years

First-year students who have applied for admission by March 1 and are ranked first or second in their high school class may qualify for this scholarship. To be considered for renewal, students must attend full time and maintain a 3.0 GPA (no separate application is required). Students considered for this scholarship must graduate from a class of 25 students or higher.

International Ambassador Award

$7,000 renewable up to 4 years

To be eligible, students must meet the following requirements:

  1. Apply for admission to IUPUI by March 1
  2. Minimum high school GPA of 3.0
  3. Submit one of the following:
    1. Minimum iBT TOEFL score of 80
    2. Minimum 500 SAT Critical Reading score (tests taken prior to March, 2016)
    3. 27 SAT score (tests taken after March, 2016)
    4. IELTS score of 6.5
    5. O-level and equivalents A-B in English Language
    6. PIE Level 7
    7. ACT (English) score of 22
    8. proof you are a native English speaker.

To be considered for renewal, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

ELS Ambassador Award

$7,000 renewable up to 4 years for first-year students (2 years for Transfer students).

Students may be eligible for this scholarship if they have a minimum high school/secondary school cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and have successfully completed Level 112 at ELS Language Centers in the USA or Canada.

To be considered for renewal, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

Non-Resident Transfer Scholar Award

$5,000 renewable up to 2 years

Students may be eligible for this scholarship if they have a postsecondary study record at an officially recognized university and have earned a GPA of 3.3 or higher from each previous institution. Students must have completed at least 12 semester credit hours and apply for a Bachelor's program. To be considered for renewal, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

IUPUI Housing Stipend

$2,500 one-time award

Non-resident freshman students who are awarded one of the above awards (as well as submit a housing application by March 15) will receive this one-time housing stipend.

IUPUI Competitive Scholarships

IUPUI Honors College

The IUPUI Honors College offers high ability incoming freshmen the opportunity to apply to the Chancellor’s Scholarship and the Plater International Scholars Program. Students may apply for these scholarship programs by submitting the online IUPUI Honors College Scholarship Application, and submitting required materials as specified by November 15. Plater International Scholars Program

Scholarship & Admission Application Deadline: November 1
$27,000 renewable for 4 years:
$12,000 per year for four years of study in addition to the Outstanding Scholar Award ($15,000 per year) for a total of $27,000 per year. Scholars also receive a $2,500 housing stipend for their freshman year and $2,500 in funding for a study abroad experience.

The Plater International Scholars Program is designed for exceptional incoming freshmen who are committed to combining academic excellence with global citizenship. This highly competitive scholarship program is for students with an interest in international affairs and cross-cultural experiences. Plater International Scholars will be actively involved in international programming, both off and on campus. In close cooperation with the Office of International Affairs, recipients of the Plater International Scholarship will be exposed to high profile international visitors, international seminars, and lectures.

Community Service Scholarships

Sam H. Jones Community Service Scholarship Program

$3,000 one-time award - Deadline: February 1, priority date

The Sam H. Jones Community Service Scholarship Program recognizes IUPUI students for previous service to their high school, campus, or community, and supports their continued involvement in educationally meaningful service, leadership, and social advocacy. Sam H. Jones was a dedicated public servant who provided dynamic leadership as the Chief Executive Officer of the Indianapolis Urban League. The program honors Sam Jones’ legacy as a community leader whose vision and dedication improved the quality of life for many in Central Indiana. The Freshman Service Scholarship recognizes students who have demonstrated a commitment to voluntary service through high school and/or community-based organizations. Applicants must meet regular admissions standards. Freshman Service Scholars agree to enroll in at least 9 credit hours per semester, including a required service learning class, and participate in planned community service activities during the year.

    Application Requires:
  1. IUPUI scholarship application
  2. A personal essay
  3. An official academic transcript
  4. Two letters of recommendation, with at least one from a teacher who is familiar with your service involvement.

The personal essay should describe your service activities, how the service contributed to your school and/or community, and the lessons you learned through your involvement with others. On campus interviews will be conducted for all finalists.
